Looking at play through a te ao M膩ori lens shows us a distinct Aotearoa New Zealand approach to play which is strengths-based, culturally appropriate, and grounded in m膩tauranga M膩ori.
爆料社区 has a role to play in making sure tamariki have plenty of opportunities to play in ways that are relevant to them and their culture. The special relationship M膩ori have with the environment offers us a unique opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate t膩karo M膩ori.

When it comes to t膩karo M膩ori, the taiao (environment) plays a key role in the way we once played, the way we currently play and the way we want to play in the future.
The value of T膩karo M膩ori includes:
- offering tamariki an opportunity to play as M膩ori
- creating meaningful connections with others
- enabling cultural knowledge and language transmission across generations and at all levels
- creating opportunities for tamariki to understand who they are while having fun
- celebrating our indigenous knowledge and unique view on Play in Aotearoa.
We are now seeing a resurgence of opportunities in ng膩 taonga t膩karo, m膩ra hupara and the development of new and emerging games developed by, for and with M膩ori.
As kaitiaki of the play, active recreation and sport system, we have a goal to restore, reclaim and revitalise traditional knowledge surrounding t膩karo M膩ori and we are committed to ensuring the mana of t膩karo M膩ori is upheld and maintained.
