Te tūārongo - Background
CEO, մǾܳū, Neavin Broughton (Te Atiawa), and four other staff travelled to Arahura. The organisation was ready to accept the responsibility, stewardship and commitment of having its own mauri stone. Through the connection of Neavin Broughton and with the permission and guidance of the Weepu Whānau of Ngāti Waewae we were fortunate to have retrieved our mauri pounamu.

Te kaupapa - the purpose
They are symbolic of our bi-culturalheritageand future, a tangible reminder of ourcommitmenttoTeTiriti o Waitangiand Māori.
Ihi Aotearoa are privileged to be kaitiaki of three mauri pounamu. All three have been named after three ancient Māori concepts of pono,tika, aroha:
- KiaPonokitekaupapa- Be authentic to the purpose
- KiaTikatemahi - Act with integrity
- MeArohakitetangata- Respect others.

Māreikura
The role of theMāreikurais to protect home and provide sustenance for thewhānau. AMāreikurais solid, unwavering and always has a presence at home. AMāreikurais considered theahikāor the keeper of the home fires. AMāreikurais the female equivalent to a Whatukura. The name of theMāreikuraisKia Pono.
Using ‘Kiaponokitekaupapa’ as its guide and through being authentic in all does, the name ‘Kia Pono’ will support theMāreikurapounamu to ensure that allkaupapait is involved in ispono.
Whatukura
One of the roles of a Whatukura (as a person) is to explore and create relationships in the world. A Whatukura gathers information and knowledge and shares it. AWhatukurais considered theahitereor the creator of home fires in new lands. A Whatukura is the male equivalent to aMāreikura. The Name of the Whatukura isKia Tika.
Using ‘Kiatikatemahi’ as its guide and acting with integrity in all does, the name ‘KiaTika’ will support the Whatukura pounamu to ensure that allkaupapait is involved in istika.

The role of theմǾܳūis to make manifest the aspirations and dreams of both a Whatukura and aMāreikurathrough guiding people along pathways. AմǾܳūuses the knowledge gathered by a Whatukura and the stability provided by aMāreikurato create pathways to the future. The name ofմǾܳūisMe Aroha.
Using ‘Me arohakitetangata’ as its guide and through being open and respectful, the name ‘Me Aroha’ will support theմǾܳūpounamu to ensure that allkaupapait is involved in has aroha as a base.
