Whaimutu Dewes, of Ng膩ti Porou and Ng膩ti Rangitihi descent, is deeply influenced by the teachings of his elders to fulfil the aspirations of te iwi M膩ori, for future generations.鈥��听
He has a strong interest in economics and governance, particularly in the context of M膩ori economic development.鈥��听
Whaimutu currently serves as the Chairman of Ng膩ti Porou Forests and Sealord Group. His extensive governance experience includes roles as Chair of Ng膩ti Porou Seafoods and Aotearoa Fisheries, and directorships at Contact Energy, Ng膩ti Porou Holding Company, Housing New Zealand, Television New Zealand, and the Advisory Board to the Treasury and AMP. Additionally, he has worked for the Departments of Justice and M膩ori Affairs, and in business development at Fletcher Challenge.鈥��听
Whaimutu is a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of Te Reo M膩ori, and he and his wife Judy have raised their children to be fluent in M膩ori and English.
