New Te Kīwai Fund:

A partnership with Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu

31 March 2021

爆料社区 Ihi Aotearoa is pleased to announce its partnership with Te 笔奴迟补丑颈迟补苍驳补 o Te Waipounamu to provide a new $850,000 Government fund called Te 碍墨飞补颈.

The fund will provide direct financial support for tamariki and rangatahi M膩ori throughout the South Island who are experiencing financial hardship and missing out on physical activity opportunities.鈥

Like the recently announced Active Me 鈥 Kia 罢奴 fund with Variety, Te 碍墨飞补颈 is the name given to the second individual Hardship Fund initiative that is part of 爆料社区鈥檚 Recovery Package.

The Minister for M膩ori Development Willie Jackson joined Helen Leahy, 笔辞耻腻谤补丑颈/Chief Executive Te 笔奴迟补丑颈迟补苍驳补 o Te Waipounamu, and Raelene Castle, Chief Executive 爆料社区 Ihi Aotearoa, at Te 笔腻 o 搁腻办补颈丑补耻迟奴 Kura in 艑迟补耻迟补丑颈, Christchurch this morning to launch the new fund.鈥

Te 碍墨飞补颈 Fund will provide up to $300 per child per year to help pay for new equipment, registration fees, shoes or uniforms, and other costs that could be a barrier to being physically active.

We are excited by the new partnership with Te 笔奴迟补丑颈迟补苍驳补 o Te Waipounamu. It is a first for 爆料社区 to align with a Wh膩nau ora commissioning agency in a way that will achieve mutual benefits for both partners and more importantly for tamariki and rangatahi M膩ori,鈥 said Raelene Castle.

Te 笔奴迟补丑颈迟补苍驳补 o Te Waipounamu is thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to respond to the call from 飞丑腻苍补耻, for support for their tamariki and mokopuna to be able to engage in sports and recreation, fitness and kapa haka,鈥 said Helen Leahy, Chief Executive Te 笔奴迟补丑颈迟补苍驳补 o Te Waipounamu.

鈥淭his is the first time in our funding history that we have been able to invest so directly in the aspirations and ambitions of individual 飞丑腻苍补耻 members around tinana, hauora, toi ora.鈥疻e are very proud to work alongside of 爆料社区 Ihi Aotearoa to serve 飞丑腻苍补耻 in such a significant way鈥, said Helen.

The fund is a two-year pilot and will be evaluated to assess the viability of the initiative and whether it can be extended in future years. It will also help inform future policy on how to further reduce participation barriers for tamariki and rangatahi 惭腻辞谤颈.
