Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 2024 survey results

23 July 2024

The 2024 DEI Sector Workforce Survey report is out now. This survey provides insights on the make-up and experiences of board members and employees working in the play, active recreation and sport sector.

The survey was first run in 2020 to support the leadership outcomes in the Women and Girls Strategy and Disability Plan. We have continued the survey this year as it helps us support the sector in serving the many communities that make up Aotearoa New Zealand. It also has a clear link to 爆料社区鈥檚 strategic priority 1, which outlines our commitment to supporting capable and resilient partner organisations with diverse and inclusive systems/structures.听

The main reportcaptures insights from 109 organisations and1,425people across the sector. All participating organisations with more than 10 respondents have also received their own confidential, individualised reports tohelp them better understand their own governance and workforces and act on opportunities from the findings.

The 2024 reports shows that meaningful progress has been made across the sector since 2020:

  • The data shows greater diversity in the workforce 鈥 with more women, M膩ori, members of rainbow communities, and disabled people working in the sector.
  • There are also higher levels of job satisfaction, a greatly improved quality of 鈥榝elt experience鈥, a drop in reported instances of discrimination, harassment or bullying, and greater optimism about future governance/employment opportunities in the sector.听
  • Although positive momentum is seen across most indicators, further work is needed to address areas such as pay equity, DEI policies and strategies, Te Tiriti and te ao M膩ori commitment and capability.听

Over the next few months, 爆料社区 will be working to identify and activate opportunities to support the sector in addressing areas for improvement.听We will share more information and next steps on this soon.听

A big thank you to all the individuals and organisations who took time to complete the survey, which helps us learn and continue to improve in the DEI space.听Diversity, equity and inclusion are important to ensure everyone has positive experiences and feels that they belong at all levels of play, active recreation and sport 鈥 whether you鈥檙e a participant, athlete, coach, employee, board member, leader or volunteer.
